The ways to play

How will you play tonight?

  • For one

    Versus computer

Four opponents, from gentle Jim to formidable Ron. A single frame, or a match of up to 35.

  • For two, apart

    Play online

A quick match with another player, or a private room: send a friend its five-character code.

  • For two, side by side

    Two players

One table, one screen, two players taking turns, as the game has always been played.

  • For the patient

    Practice

Place any ball anywhere on the cloth, and play the shot again until it’s yours.

The game itself

No trailer.
This is the game.

The opening shot of a frame, straight from the browser: Player 1 against Jim, ball in hand in the D.

Straight from a phone, held sideways. Every control you need, under your thumbs.

  1. Four cameras

Cue view puts you down the cue. TV, Overhead and a free camera are a click away.

  2. The line of the pot

White dashes for the line of the pot; dots trace the cue ball’s path with your spin and power.

  3. Power, drawn back

Pull back the upright cue gauge: anything from a whisper of 1 to a full 100.

  4. Contact

Choose exactly where the tip meets the cue ball, for side, screw or follow.

  5. Cue elevation

Raise the cue as high as 50° to swerve.

Why it feels right

Played as it ought to be played.

In black and white: white gloves and a bow tie beyond the racked reds and the black

Spin you can feel.

Side, screw, follow and swerve, worked out continuously: balls throw, grip and come off the cushion as they should. Graze the cue ball and you may miscue.

The rules, properly kept.

Fouls and free balls are called for you. Nominate a colour, put your opponent back in, see the colours respotted. Against the computer, U takes back your last shot.

The hush of the hall.

A packed, tiered arena waiting in the dark. Recorded cue and ball sounds, the referee’s calls, a murmur and the odd cough from the seats.

A steady hand for beginners.

Each turn the cue lines up on the easiest pot for you, and the guides show the line. Press G to switch them off and play by eye.Switch them off to play by eye.
